The decision to send your child to a Montessori School is one that will benefit him/her for the rest of their life. During the first two weeks of school your child will be adjusting to his/her new classroom and teacher.

After this settling-in period your child will be introduced to the exercises in practical life. These exercises help develop the child’s co-ordination and gain independence During this time we encourage parents to allow their child take off his/her coat when their child comes to school. Where possible we also ask parents to allow their child to dress themselves and help out with the housework, for example sweeping, washing and drying dishes etc.

Montessori Details

  • After some time your child will be introduced to various exercises that help develop and refine a particular sense, for example colour boxes which help develop and refine the child’s chromatic sense. An introduction to the Irish Language will be taught including poetry, etc. These exercises will continue throughout the year and will also include maths.
  • Language is taught phonetically (by sound). This includes the alphabet and reading. Language is also taught with sensorial exercises to allow your child express his/her experience with the materials.
  • History will develop your child’s sense of time including the days of the week, months of the year and the four seasons. It also encompasses familiarizing your child with different aspects of his/her environment, for example the beach, the farm etc.

The classroom provided for your child is a specially prepared one. The furniture is suitable from the age of 2 up to 6 years old. Your child will be given complete freedom to choose the exercises they wish to work with each day, with freedom of movement and freedom of speech. Since Montessori is quite intensive the amount of time spent in this area will be 3—4 hours. Other activities will include Drawing, Colouring, Painting, Crafts, Games, Songs, Stories, and Classical Poetry.

At Naomi's Montessori, we feel it is important for parents to receive feedback on their child’s progress. We encourage communication from parents and are always delighted to receive any feedback.
